FAQ. Oxana Kovalyova — Food Stylist in Almaty

1. How to book a shoot date?

In order to book a shoot date, a following deposit is required:

  • Food styling without a photo shoot — 100%
  • Food styling with a photo shoot — from 50%

This allows me to fully focus on your project and prepare everything in advance to deliver first-class results.

2. Can a shoot be done remotely?

Yes, I can organize the entire food styling and food photoshoot process online. It’s an ideal solution if you are located in another city or country. This format helps you save time and still achieve high-quality results without the need to attend the photoshoot in person.

2.1. How does a shoot proceed without real-time approval?

If you trust my professionalism and are ready to grant me the freedom to act within your project’s scope, we discuss the expected outcome in detail beforehand and finalize the sketches. This approach allows us to achieve a perfect result even without your direct involvement in the process.

2.2. How does online approval work?

For online approval, we go over all the details in advance, and at the scheduled time, I provide you with access to a Zoom session or create a WhatsApp group to keep you involved throughout the process. You’ll be able to observe the shooting process and make timely adjustments so that the photos fully meet your expectations.

3. Do you prepare the dishes yourself or buy ready-made ones? Or are these all mock-ups?

I choose the most effective approach to save both your and my time, as well as your budget. If the necessary product is available on the market and can be used as-is or slightly refined, I purchase a ready-made one. However, sometimes the product doesn’t meet the requirements, and in that case, I prepare it myself. Often, product stabilization is also necessary. In more complex cases, a mock-up is created, which then goes through testing and approval. Hence the cost depends on the extent of product preparation required.

4. What if you don’t have a brief?

Working without a brief is like going on a journey without a map. We risk wasting time, effort, and resources without achieving the desired result. A brief is your tool for a clear understanding of the goals, objectives, and desired outcome, helping to avoid misunderstandings and achieve a perfect result.

Send me a message and I’ll help you clarify the task. We’ll discuss your goals, ideas, and expectations together. If necessary, I’ll prepare a brief for you. This communication will streamline the process, ensure a smooth workflow, and guarantee the final result that fully aligns with your expectations.

5. Is the cost of product purchasing included in the overall price?

No, the cost of product purchasing is not included in the project fee. This is done to ensure high-quality results and transparent budgeting.

Why is that? Every shoot is unique, and products are chosen to fit the specific task. For example, it’s important to consider:

  • Whether you’ll have a wide shot or a close-up.
  • Whether the products need to be stabilized for composition or not.
  • How many takes will be required, and whether the products will be used in action shots (for example, a strawberry dropping into milk) or if the product will be consumed by a talent in the shot.
  • Whether the desired result is already known or we will experiment on set.

I always make a list of products needed to be purchased for every specific photoshoot considering all the details. I also buy extra products to avoid any unforeseen circumstances. If the budget is tight and requires optimization, please let me know—I’ll help you find the best solution.

What does this approach do for you? It ensures that everything on set looks perfect, while also preventing you from overpaying for unnecessary or surplus products.

6. What is included in the cost of a shooting hour?

The price includes everything necessary for a professional shoot:

  • Consultation and detailed project planning.
  • On-site work within the city of Almaty and its surrounding towns.
  • Rental of basic equipment, backgrounds, and props.
  • Team involved: a food stylist, a photographer, and an assistant on set.

7. What is not included in the cost?

The cost of creating a brief and retoucher services are charged separately. However, at the project approval stage, I will always provide you with full details and help you navigate these costs.

I discuss all project details in advance to avoid unexpected expenses and to maintain the highest possible budget transparency. The following items may be included in a separate calculation:

  • Renting specialized equipment or backgrounds if the standard set is insufficient for your idea.
  • Purchasing props, including products, materials for mock-ups, and other items.
  • Transportation costs for delivering equipment and materials on set.
  • The service of product purchase so you wouldn’t have to spend time searching for products yourself.
